Cat swam in and out of confusing consciousness for a full day before he figured out what felt so weird. He was stretched out on a bed with blankets half over him, his senses incredibly sharp, and his tail twitching ever so slightly. Tail. He was in form somehow.
He typically didn't sleep in form, and never in his bed. He camped out in trees now and then for the hell of it, but never climbed under covers to stretch out as a leopard. He could smell familiar people through the unpleasantness of medical potions and salves, and realized he was awake, not dreaming. One thing about cats was how quickly they could wake up.
He opened his eyes and shifted to kick the blankets off, then let out a growl of displeasure. That hurt.

Castiel gasped. "Don't move!" he exclaimed. "Professor Knight, he woke up!" He'd spent as much time as he was allowed sitting beside his brother, just waiting for some change. He'd brought a small stack of books, but every last one sat on the nightstand between the hospital bed and the chair he sat in. He couldn't concentrate to read, and had filled up his pocket notebook hours ago.

Mari had been uncharacteristically silent as he sat with Castiel in the hospital wing hoping for Caspian to get better. He'd told the Vice Chancellor all he could remember of the fight, then refused to go back to Hogwarts or home until Castiel's brother was better. Castiel's words were what finally jerked him out of the daze and his eyes widened as he looked toward the bed expectantly.

Cat growled at being told what to do, but the pain was enough to keep him from moving that much again. He lifted his head and gave a bit of a roar, confused, upset, and unable to transfigure back. What had happened? Where in hell was he? Frustration wasn't helping him keep still at all.

Tempest cast a quick stunning spell as he entered the curtained-off area where Caspian Catalyst was staying. "Please sit," he told the visitors, radiating what charms he could to encourage cooperation. Some people were more susceptible than others, and it seemed to work well on these three.
"Caspian, you were badly injured in a duel yesterday," he said, stopping beside the bed. He pulled out his wand to get what stats he could. It was more difficult with beasts than humans, but he had enough training in Care of Magical Creatures to make a difference. "I haven't tried to transfigure you into human form. When you feel strong enough, I'll let you try. I'll be able to help you more that way." He eased the stunner.
"If you understand and you're willing to cooperate, lift your right paw."

Cat had to think a moment to get his bearings, then lifted a stiff right paw into the air. He lay it back down and huffed, letting his tail twitch impatiently beneath the covers. What's wrong? he wanted to ask. He was getting mental flashes, but they were of pain and anger more than anything solid. He'd attacked Saren, hadn't he? Lord Scaren. He remembered that much. He looked past Professor Knight to his brother.

Castiel was a little dazed by the Healer. This wasn't the first time it had happened, and he'd had a thought at some point that he wanted to ask his brother something. Was the man single? He was beautiful in a way that was totally opposite what Castiel normally went for, but all he wanted to do was whatever the guy said. He sat in his chair and watched.

"I have your wand," Tempest went on. "Professor Starnes confiscated it after the duel, but you're allowed to have it back. It's your animagus registration that might be a problem. You attacked someone in form. We've got a decent idea what happened, so you haven't been suspended, but I'd advise you to use more discretion in the future. Do you understand?"

Cat couldn't help a low, even growl throughout most of what Professor Knight had said, but he raised his paw again. As good as he was with a wand, he'd known Saren was better, so he'd taken what advantage he could, and he'd still been knocked down. His eyes flickered again to his brother, but Castiel looked fine, and Mari was with him. If he'd been human he'd have smirked at Castiel's reaction to the Healer. As a leopard, it wasn't affecting him.

"Here is your wand, then," Tempest said. He withdrew it from a robe pocket and lay it on the side table. "I'd like the two of you to step outside," he told the teens. "I'll let you back in as soon as I can." Which might be a while, depending on how it went. There were injuries that would translate differently on a human body, and there might be spell damage he'd missed. It would be best if it was just the two of them.

Castiel wanted to stay, to keep an eye on his brother the entire time. Their parents hadn't been able to get a Portkey the night before and hadn't arrived yet. He was their eyes and ears right now. But he couldn't seem to find the words to argue. He wrapped his hand tightly around Mari's and led the way out.
"I'm still scared for him," he admitted when they stood outside the curtains. "He's awake and I'm still scared."

Mari clenched his hand around Castiel's and forced himself to speak. "He'll be okay," he said, looking over at the curtain. "He's gotta be. I think Professor Knight's really good, and he's gonna fix everything." He had to believe it, because not to meant thinking that his brother might have killed Castiel's.

Castiel nodded and did his best to wrap his arms around Mari in a tight hug without actually letting go of his hand. "I love you Kawaii-Kun," he said softly. "You're the best friend ever. I'm glad you're here with me." He was too absorbed with himself to think that Marius might feel guilty. All he knew was that if he was going to have anyone by his side while this horrible stuff happened to his brother, he wanted it to be Mari.

Mari returned the hug, nodding, though he still didn't particularly want to talk. If he hadn't been with Castiel and Caspian, then the fight wouldn't have happened, in the first place, and Caspian wouldn't be hurt. "'m sorry 'bout Saren," he mumbled finally, refusing to pull away from his friend.

"He's a jerk," Castiel said. "He's a super über douchey jerk and I think he got switched at the hospital because your whole family is so much better than him. And like, you're the best. You are, too. You probably saved my life." He probably could have dealt with the snake on his own, but he might have been bitten first, and it had probably been poisonous. Castiel refused to let Mari feel bad for something someone else had done.
