"Sure, if I need a new face I'll send you a message," Rhys said, nodding. "Half the time it's not really so much explaining magic as it is convincing my dad it isn't some big horrid evil sin that deserves reparative therapy or something. Peter's only five, I couldn't let them do that kind of thing to him. Honestly, I originally thought we'd end up stealing him or something."

"Oh, wow," Indigo said. Yeah, he had nothing to convince anyone about things not being sinful except the power of the internet. "I'll look into it sometime, Facebook you some links if I find anything. There's next to nothing online about wizardry that's true because people stick to the statute, but I've got connections." He said that last like it was a joke, but he had a bit of a fan base in his corner of the internet and plenty of people who'd help him look for things.

"Go for it, it can't hurt," Rhys said. "We've been making my dad read a lot recently about a few different things, so adding to his load won't be a big deal." It wasn't just materials about the magical world, though that was the bulk of it. A few gay articles slipped in every so often. "Anyway, there's a long road ahead before my dad is okay with everything."

Indigo nodded his understanding. "I've got a lot of family that doesn't know," he said. "Well, I've got a lot of family. My parents needed to know, but I think I had an aunt and a couple teachers who..." He caught himself at something that he remembered worrying his parents. "Well, the Ministry stepped in," he finished. "Good luck with your dad and your brother."

"Yeah, well parents, you know," Rhys said. "You and Matthew could always get together to rant about your significant others' parents. He can complain about my dad, you can complain about Jory's must have grandbabies mum, have a couple drinks, make it a fun night." He smiled at the thought. Sometimes people just needed to let off some steam, and a good ranting session was the perfect outlet.

Indigo laughed, and almost pointed out that he wasn't old enough to drink before remembering where he was. Wasn't he supposed to be partying and doing crazy stuff? "Oh, I was going to tell you about my roommate," Indigo said. "Not the one I posted about on Facebook, that one got an apprenticeship offer and dropped out. But this new guy is like, weird."

"Oh, really? Weird how?" Rhys had heard roommate horror stories from people in his university classes and was very glad he had never actually had to live with some stranger. Just adjusting to living with Matthew had had its list of struggles, and they'd been together nearly a year. "I mean, does he float above the bed and speak in tongues or something?"

Indigo laughed. "Sort of?" he teased. "Seriously though, sometimes he talks in his sleep and it sounds like a little kid, it's freaky. So the other day he comes in and dumps his laundry on the end of his bed, puts half of it away and kicks a few things underneath. Like, a skirt and a bra, and I'm like, okay, he's a cross-dresser, whatever, and later he goes looking for something under there and drags the bra out like he's totally confused how it got there. He asks me if it's mine. I say no, because like, no, and he kicks it back under.
"Then yesterday he comes in and starts writing a note and partway through he stops and it's like his face changes, but not like a metamorphmagus like Hyacinth. Just like, I don't know, he went from looking like a cute depressed guy to looking like a really pretty girl. He finishes the note and sends it off, then pulls some different clothes from under his bed and just starts stripping like I'm not there. So I left. And he wasn't there when I got back, didn't come back all night. Haven't seen him since."

Rhys' eyebrows creased in concentration as he listened to what Indigo said. "I don't want to sound like some freshman who's just taken psych 101, but there are mental issues that would make someone act like that. Of course, he could just be weird and like messing with you. I've seen plenty of weird people in university, they like to try out new versions of themself and everything."

"Yeah," Indigo said. He gave a shrug. "It's just weird. And the talking like a little kid thing is... freaky, like I said. Like, I swear, it wasn't like someone talking in a little kid voice, it was like there was a kid over on his side of the room like in a horror flick. F-O-X," he said, trying to approximate it. "I'll tell you what I told Jory. If I get hacked apart in my sleep, you know who to look for."

"I'll keep that in mind," Rhys said. "Could you go to a professor about it? I've heard of people switching roommates and stuff, maybe you could get someone you feel more comfortable with. You're here to learn, not be afraid." It definitely wasn't conductive to studying when someone was imitating a creepy kid in the next bed over.

"I guess," Indigo said, then, "probably. My Head of House is Madame Magadia, she's been working with Jory on his Seer stuff so I've met her a couple times." Maybe she could look in her crystal and tell him he was worrying over nothing. That would be nice. "Yeah, I'll do that. I didn't know you could switch roommates, you can't do it at Hogwarts." But then, he wasn't in a room with every male freshman in his house.

"Ah, well, even if you can't it's worth a shot," Rhys said, shrugging. "How's Jory doing, by the way? With the Seer stuff?" He didn't know much about it. Seeing the future still felt like one of those you've got to be joking facets of magic. He could understand maybe reading things like tea leaves or tarot cards, but prophecies were a little out of his reach.

"I don't know," Indigo said honestly. "Sometimes it's like he's getting confident with it, and he feels good about it because Astra's picking up her training so well, and then any time something comes up that he's not sure about he's like, I shouldn't because I might have a prophecy. Like when we ended up talking about getting married he said he doesn't think about the future because it might trigger a prophecy. That's the same reason he gave me when I first asked him to meet my parents, that he shouldn't travel because it might trigger a prophecy. He says he's doing well, and I believe him, but he doesn't act like it sometimes. He's still scared and still dragging his feet a little, and I'm worried he'll end up pulling back instead of being what I know he could be.
"I mean, he's not weak when he cares about something. He waited for me for months, and then he waited even longer while I decided whether I should tell anyone. During that duel, the one he had the prophecy about, instead of taking off he dragged someone out of the way, tried to keep other people from getting hurt. And I can't convince him that means anything. I'm supposed to be the one who helps him get confident and like, I'm not doing it. I don't know which of us to be annoyed with, you know?"

"Well, it's a change, right? Any time there's a huge change there's a ton of insecurity that goes along with it. It isn't the same thing, but I have this mental issue where I hear voices and I get this horrible anxiety, and I'm a lot better at handling it now, but even after dealing with it for going on two years now there are still times I just want to curl up and pray nothing triggers anything," Rhys said. He hadn't talked much about that kind of thing with Indigo, but it felt relevant.
"All you can really do is be supportive. You can help him, but in the end he's got to come to terms with it himself. It's terrifying when there's a part of yourself you can't control. Have you talked to him about it?"
