Lani smiled, though she chose not to tell Indigo that he would likely never get to experience Society simply because of his blood status. It was a horrible metric, she suddenly realized. What did it matter, when Indigo seemed to be a good man? She had a lot to think about. After the date. She only spoke again once they were settled in seats so far back that the headrests were against a wall. When she looked overhead, there was a little window through which she could see something similar to a camera.
"This is not what a theater looks like," she said. "There are no balconies, for one." The armrests had empty round spots, though she soon discovered they fit her cup well. She also was far more well dressed than other women she saw filing in, with jeans and t-shirts.

"I think they used to make movie theaters like that," Indigo said. He flipped up the arm rest between them and started settling their various junk foods in easy reach. "But a lot of people go to the cinema and they can show a movie several times a day, plus it takes Muggles a lot longer to clean up when people leave, so it's got to be like this. You'll see a lot of the same kinds of floors and carpets in Muggle places because they're easier to take care of."

Practically before Lani knew it, she was surrounded by treats sweet and savory, with Indigo on one side. While she could feel his warmth and closeness, there was something exotic about the unfamiliar snacks. "They don't have magic," she reasoned. Whatever made their lives easier, she supposed. "What should I start with?" she asked.

"Oh, the popcorn, definitely," Indigo said. "While it's still hot." He suddenly looked up and into the theater. No one was looking. He pulled out his wand for a quick warming charm. "Shhh, don't say anything!" It wasn't breaking the statute of secrecy if he didn't get caught, right?

Lani grinned, then went to pluck out a few pieces of popcorn with her fingers. It still felt like a foreign thing to touch food with her hands in a casual way. Of course there were foods meant to be eaten with hands, but...wait, wasn't this one meant to be eaten with hands? That's right, she'd eaten it before, perhaps she had just forgotten the etiquette when faced with Indigo. Her cheeks flushed and she averted her eyes as she popped some of the snack in her mouth and the lights left to leave a darkened room.

Indigo dropped a couple napkins between them and dug into the popcorn as the previews started. Now and then during a quieter moment he'd lean close to explain something, or he'd open a different snack and tuck it into the side of the popcorn bucket. At some point he'd closed the space between them and slid his arm around Lani's shoulders, which was the main point of putting up the arm rest in the first place.

That arm around her shoulders was far more comfortable and pleasing than Lani would admit. Then there was that feeling of his warm breath at her ear, which sent a shiver through her, and before she knew it, she had tucked both her legs up beneath her, her toes intruding on the empty seat beside her, so that she could lean in closer to Indigo. "Did I tell you I sing?" she asked softly. "I was told I wasn't allowed ambition."

"No, I didn't know you could sing." She'd said she loved music, that she was good with it, but they hadn't gotten any further than that. He was impressed, and not just because he'd been declared tone-deaf as a kid. He wondered how good she was. "Maybe you could sing for me later," he said, lips curving.

Lani dragged her eyes away from the mysterious screen in front of her to see Indigo far closer than she had anticipated, despite the arm around her shoulders and the fact she could feel his warmth. Perhaps it was just comforting to imagine him farther away. "You wouldn't know anything I can sing," she pointed out. Wold that make it better? He wouldn't be able to appreciate it fully, but he also wouldn't notice any mistakes.

Indigo gave a bit of a one-shouldered shrug. "I'm always looking for new music." His parents listened to a little of everything depending on their mood, and though Indigo couldn't think of any classical music that had words to it, that didn't mean it didn't exist. Maybe Lani sang old-fashioned wizarding ballads, in which case that was something he'd missed out on being raised by Muggles.

Lani looked at Indigo in the dark, watching how the light played on his face and emphasized the lines of his cheek and jaw. On a whim, she pressed a brief kiss to his cheek, then settled in closer to him and rested her head against his. The contact with him was what she was interested in then, rather than talking or anything else, even the tasty treats she had been introduced to.

Indigo looked at what he could see of Lani for a while, letting the movie roll by. Then he rested his head lightly against hers. He hardly knew Lani, but he liked her so much. Why? He thought back to their conversations, from him showing off his phone in the kitchen and the two of them dancing to the time they'd spent hidden in his bedroom. It was a total cliche to say she was different from anyone he'd ever met, but it was also true.
Eventually he got into the movie again, and though most people stood and left when it was over, he sat, letting the credits roll. It had been a good movie, the kind that made you think, and he was in no hurry to leave the comfortable dark. He brushed his hand against Lani's neck, and after some few moments, turned to take a kiss.

Lani didn't mind being kept from commenting on the movie with a kiss. Let people see them in the dim light from the emergency lights and scrolling credits if they wanted, she liked kissing Indigo. The hand at her neck with its light touch sent a shiver through her, which the kiss did little to quell. Still, they were in public, and she was aware enough to keep it simple.

When the credits ended, the lights rose and Indigo pulled himself away, a little breathless. His hands rested on the nape of her neck and the flat plane of her abdomen, just beneath perfectly hand-sized breasts. His gaze flickered between her lips and her blue-grey eyes. "Want to go to my place?" For stuff. Definitely stuff.
