Castiel glanced at his brother, then back to Mari. "You know that thing I bought for Caspian? I got you one too, but yours is different." Why hadn't Saren left? The pizza was really good, but the guy was way too snobby for something you had to eat with your hands.

"You didn't need to get something for me," Cat said, resisting the urge to glare at the douchebag. He'd lost his appetite and pushed his plate forward a bit, then reached for his drink. "But uh, thank you. If it's anything like that Union Jack blanket I'll love it." He refused to be bitter about the fact that his brother was still getting plenty of money from their parents.

Mari's eyebrows creased and his eyes wandered around the room as he tried to remember what Castiel had gotten Cat. The room was small enough that it was only a second before he noticed Saren. He sat up straighter and his eyes brightened. "It's Saren! Hey, Saren, over here!" he waved to his brother, excited to see him. Though he had considered looking for his brother while at Valfirdu, they hadn't been able to figure out if they would have time yet.

Saren's eyes closed and he took in a deep breath before letting it out slowly, pausing in counting out his money for the order. He managed a smile at the woman behind the counter before turning. He plastered on a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes, not that his brother would notice any difference, and headed to the booth. Hopefully, his food would only take a minute or two. "I didn't know you were coming to visit," he said.

"You should get your memory checked, Scaren, I told you a couple weeks ago." Cat wouldn't play polite just because Castiel and Mari were here. They weren't on campus. If there was a fight, there wasn't a whole lot the school could do about it except give him a slap on the wrist.

"Well, I'm here, can I come see your shop? I haven't seen you since Christmas!" Mari said, ignoring or unaware of any tension around the table, it was difficult to tell. "I haven't been able to talk to Professor Blackwood-Hardt, he's always busy, but I'm going to try again when I'm back at school." He'd been excited to get a letter from Saren after going so long without a reply. It was easy to mark up the lack of response as his brother being busy.

"I would greatly appreciate it if you could speak with him soon," Saren said, ignoring whatever else had been said. He didn't care to be bested by Caspian in front of the dynamic duo and would much prefer to get this little discussion over with as soon as possible. He didn't care to show his annoying little brother around his shop, either.

"How long since your windows have been egged?" Castiel goaded. "Your brother asked you a question." Cat had asked one too, but he expected his own to be firmly ignored. "He's family, not your personal owl. You don't have to ask your professors anything for him," he added for Mari.

"But you said it, he's family, I can do a little work to get him some help. He likes researching that stuff, and I've talked to Professor Blackwood-Hardt before," Mari said. It would be easier for him to talk to the professor and get conversation going than for his brother to just send an owl to the guy.

Saren shot a glance at Caspian. "See? He's happy to talk to the professor for me," he said before looking up at his brother. "I'm sorry, though, I juggle classes and work. Often, either I'm in classes or there just isn't the time to give a tour of the place. You could come by, but I can't guarantee I would be able to show you around."

"You're at your shop often enough," Cat said. "You're not busy there. What has he ever done for you, Marius? He lies and makes excuses, and it's got nothing to do with you. He's always been an a~hole. You're the better Reed, and don't let him try to convince you otherwise."

As his brother's eyes dropped, Saren turned his gaze to Caspian. "Well, thank you for providing my brother, who lived with me for something like ten years before ever meeting your, with a personality assessment," he said. "If you would like to show Marius here to my shop, then be my guest." It would be easier to talk if his brother wasn't listening. Of course, it was much more difficult to sidestep a man who had known him since he was eleven.

Cat finally pushed to his feet. "He's looked up to you long enough, it's about time someone showed him what a liar you are. You're all talk, but you never do anything for him, and you've got him doing your research and begging for you to notice him. You keep talking around things instead of answering, act like his brother for once instead of making empty promises."

"Wait," Mari said, looking up at Cat, though he was unable to stand up properly. "Don't fight, I don't want you to fight! Saren's busy, is all." He didn't want to have bad thoughts about his brother, even if Cat had been able to call off enough time to entertain Castiel and Mari when Saren hadn't done the same. "Leave him alone." Sure, their relationship wasn't what it used to be, but they had been close enough during Mari's childhood that he was unwilling to write Saren off for good.

Castiel had been playing along with the whole Saren's just busy thing for years to spare Mari's feelings, but he couldn't take that side right now. He wouldn't let his own brother look like a liar for standing up to the guy. "He doesn't even answer your letters, Mari-Kun," he said, keeping his eyes low. "The first time he answered you in like, forever was to ask you to do something for him. I try not to say anything, but I've always kind of thought your brother was a douche." Maybe even worse than Blake.
