A party had been raging when a silver raven flew through an open door and landed imperiously on the bust sitting on the mantle. Where else? It flickered, but it was still impressive work for a fifteen year old kid. "Hey, cut the music!" he called. "Just a minute, it's my brother!" It had better not be anything private, because a lot of people were about to hear it.
There was some shuffling and whispering, the clink of bottles, but it was low enough for him to hear the message. And somehow, his brother had thought to leave out identifying information. Miracles happen, he thought. A glance at Evelyn across the room, and he waved the music back on.
In his bedroom, he'd filled Evelyn in and asked her opinion. She hadn't been moved in long, but he wasn't about to pull any my house, my decision crap. He sent off his own Patronus, but held off breaking up the festivities until he had a reply. Then he headed out in search of Jai.
Party's moving to the Crow's Nest! his friend called from the top of the book ladder. Drinks on me! Cat gave his friend a grateful look and they began the process of herding people out without killing the mood. As soon as the last had gone, Cat got started with cleanup.
He was debating where to put his brother's gently-raised runaway when a third Patronus arrived, brighter and stronger than the previous two.
How much stuff can she bring? it asked.
"Sh~. What's the attic look like?" he asked Evelyn. "I don't go up there, is there a lot of crap to deal with?" At least his party cleanup skills were top-notch and he wasn't drunk. An hour or two longer, though...

Evelyn felt distinctly female as she sighed and ruffled her boyfriend's hair. "There are some cobwebs and lingering furniture, but nothing drastic," she assured. "It can be ready in just a few minutes, depending on what the girl's bringing. If she isn't bringing a bed and wants a clean and polished dresser, however, it'll take a little longer. As long as she isn't bringing an apartment of stuff, I think you'll be fine."

"I'll tell Castiel to get her bed if he can." He paused his cleaning long enough to give his girl a grateful kiss on the neck, then swatted her arse playfully. "Looks like I'll be putting up silencing spells," he sighed. He could be a good host and still hope she wouldn't stay long. In the meantime, nothing was changing in the bedroom but a closed door.
She'll get the upstairs, he told his Patronus. Bring her bed if you can. That would have to be enough, because what teenage girl wanted to hear she'd be stuck in an attic?

Evelyn grinned at Cat's playful swat, then started up the stairs. "We can't f~ on the couch, but I'm sure there's plenty of fun to be had in your bedroom," she said. "We can always ban her from the house when we need to, roommates do that kind of thing all the time." Give the roomie enough money for food and a movie, and that was usually enough. "The bathroom situation, however, could be a problem." Both she and Cat had jewelry to attend to, and hair was another consideration, so adding someone else could create something of a traffic jam.

"There's a bathroom up there," Cat called. "Someone told me." Ah, parties. When the bathroom had too long a line, people got creative. He'd never needed it, but he'd sent people up there. He turned to his bookshelves, wondering if he ought to censor anything, then decided it was a waste of time, considering everything else that needed done. He turned off the porch lights to discourage any late partygoers, then went to check the state of the kitchen.

"Oh, look, there is," Evelyn said just loud enough to be heard across the floors. Though she lived in the place, she'd never really cared much about the attic area. She didn't need the space, and neither did Cat, so what reason did she have to explore it? "So what about the kitchen?" she asked, mostly to be mischievous. "We can't all three fry an egg at the same time." Her red lips curved; the short time frame hadn't exactly given her the opportunity to change clothes. The Society lass was in for a surprise.

"If she learns to do more than get herself a drink I'll be surprised," Cat replied. "My parents were both Society, but they were sent off to the U.S. during the war. I swear Mom would have a house-elf if my step-dad didn't insist that a maid is enough." But his step-dad was good for Mom. He got her out of the house sometimes, and after Dad had died, that was a miracle.

"And suddenly I want to teach the girl how to cook," Evelyn said. She certainly hadn't had a maid growing up, much less a house elf. "Neither of my parents were Society, so maybe I'm just what she needs. Not to downplay just how not-Society you are, of course." Though Cat couldn't see it, she grinned. She imagined that her boyfriend knew she was smiling, anyway.

Cat laughed. It had been years since his mom had been able to get him into a set of robes, and longer still since he'd looked like he belonged in them. Any photographic proof was in Florida somewhere, safely hidden away. Maybe in an attic. Speaking of which... "Everything's cleaning down here," he called. "I'll be right up."
And not a moment too soon. His brother's Patronus had shown up again saying they were coming. But not where they were coming from. No, that might have told Cat how much longer they had. He changed form to take the stairs faster, then shifted back at the top. "Damn, you've been working your sweet ass off," he noted, then pulled his wand. "You're great, Evelyn, really." And he would definitely be showing his appreciation in the nights to come.

Evelyn pressed a kiss to Cat's cheek. "I know." She flicked her wand to complete a few finishing touches. She didn't require any thanks, be they verbal or physical, but it would be a lie to say that at least some part of her didn't expect them. However much she didn't mind adding someone else to the household, she was letting another woman into the house.

"This is it," Castiel said, looking at his brother's house. The porch light was off, but there were street lights, and the moon wasn't any darker here than it had been before. He turned to Lani, hoping to prepare her. "It's not very big, and he rents it, but it's clean and he takes care of it. There are high ceilings and tall windows. Don't be afraid to ask him about things. He's a professor," kind of, "and he doesn't judge anyone."
Although maybe he ought to give Lani warnings about his brother more than the house. "Um, he's kind of alternative-looking." He gave a nervous smile, left it at that, and knocked firmly.

Lani was still feeling the rush from the ride. She hadn't been prepared for the pure insanity of the Knight Bus, and she was left flushed and near giddy from the experience. "I think after that ride, I'm ready for nearly anything," she admitted, still a little breathless. Maybe this was why Mano did things, the rush had to be addicting.

The house was clean, the attic cleared, and Cat had just enough time to make himself presentable for his kid brother and friend. He got rid of the smell of alcohol on his breath, changed his shirt, and was giving Evelyn his thanks when a knock sounded. Thankfully he hadn't gotten carried away and they were still dressed.
He opened the door before he remembered that the porch lights were off. "Sorry about that," he said, flicking a glance at them. "Hey Castiel, come on in." He couldn't see much of either of them, but the living room was bright enough to fix that.

Castiel nodded and led the way in, letting Lani's trunk and luggage settle on the floor. Then he straightened for his very best introductions. "Caspian, this is my friend Lani Berwyn," he announced. "Lani, my brother, Caspian Catalyst." That was right, right? He already knew her so he didn't get any handshaking or hand-kissing, which was really too bad.

Cat's eyes, transfigured a bright blue for the night, sparkled at his brother's introduction. So she was that kind of friend, was she? It was nice to see his brother's mind on someone besides himself or Marius for once. Cat decided to play along. "Miss Berwyn," he said, and bowed lightly over her hand, ignoring his brother's look of surprise. He didn't kiss her or anything, but he was surprised at himself for how easily that crap came back.
He let her go shortly. "We're casual here, so you can call me Caspian. My girlfriend will be here in a minute, she's in the other room."
