I'm going to do it this time, Evangeline told herself, and yet she stopped just short of the potions shop all the same. She was a whopping 5'5" at the moment in strappy 4-inch heels, but it seemed that no matter what she did, she still looked sweet. Pretty. Anything but glamorous like her mother. Oh well. He didn't seem to notice the Glamazons anyway.
She fluffed her curls, worn down for now, and checked that she had her money pouch. You can do this.
If it was just buying a potion it would be easy. She was fairly good at potions and she didn't really need any to begin with, but he was in there. He owned the place.
Saren Reed.
It was such a beautiful name! Saren meant star, and with his last name it put her in mind of a night under the stars beside a reed-edged lake. How romantic! She'd written it all over a piece of parchment that was tucked beneath her pillow, and even been daring enough to write her own Christian name with his surname. Evangeline Reed. Her initials would still be the same!
They were astrologically compatible, though she'd never tell anyone how she'd found out his birthday. She hadn't figured out how to make their character numbers match in Arithmancy, not without knowing his middle name, but their social numbers matched! As long as she didn't use their last names. She was just positive that if she knew his middle name they'd match up perfectly.
Go in and talk to him! she told herself. She took a breath, smoothed down her dress, and stepped into view. There was no stopping her now.

Saren glanced up when the bell over the door tinkled to see a small, pretty, ginger-haired girl enter the shop. "If you need any help, just ask," he said. His eyes lingered before dropping back down to the book on his lap. He was lounged back in his chair at the low counter, reading a book for his history class. A stack of parchment was on the counter in front of him, filled with small written notes. He brushed back a lock of hair that had fallen across his eyes.

Oh, he was so dreamy when he did that! She eyed him a moment longer than he had her (he'd looked at her!), then wandered toward the shelves to pretend to look at things. She'd never been alone with him before, and it was so exciting that she could hardly breathe. No noise from people entering and leaving a classroom, no one walking between them, just her and the older man of her dreams. Well, she hadn't dreamed him before she'd seen him, but she would now. She hoped. She wished she could dream that he kissed her!
She scolded herself and dropped her gaze a moment before grabbing a random potion off a shelf and heading toward the counter with purpose. She stopped in front of it and waited impatiently for him to notice her.

Saren only made her wait until the end of a sentence before he looked up at her and glanced toward the potion. "I have a version of that I made myself," he said, pulling his eyes up here to find hers. "I only use the best ingredients. If you'd prefer, it's a bit more expensive, but I think it's worth it." She was pretty, in a doll sort of way. She wouldn't look out of place in his old aunt's porcelain doll collection.

"I'll take that one," Evangeline said, not even hesitating. What was it, anyway? She glanced down to see that it was a Draught of Peace. Well, she'd gotten lucky on that. She put on a smile and cocked her hip a little, hoping she looked inviting. Maybe she'd toss her hair. Everyone loved her hair. She twirled a curl around her finger. "Quality is so worth the expense."

Saren didn't stand, but reached for his wand to silently summon the original potion. Sometimes, he very much missed his old wand, though somehow it felt like this one fit him much better. "These generic ones work, but I don't think they're quite up to par," he said as the bottle whizzed its way towards them. He reached for the bottle she held so he could put it away later. His eyes drifted to that finger. "I believe I've seen you before, on campus." How could anyone miss that fiery hair?

Evangeline's eyes brightened, and her smile became much more real. She nodded, sending curls bouncing. "I'm in History 101 before you, I've seen you talking to the professor. You're a senior, right?" Oh, everything was going perfectly, absolutely perfectly!

Saren eyed her and finally stood, figuring he should at least feign professionalism. "Yes, I would be graduating this term were it not for the shop," he said. He swiped the vial of potion with his wand. "What is your focus in history? Or is it a general class?" There were a certain number of general classes required, anyway, which he kind of hated but supposed made sense.

"It's my minor," Evangeline said. "I'm majoring in Divination, but you can't truly understand the future if you don't understand the past, so it's all related. Right now I'm taking History of Magic and Mythology along with my Divination classes. I don't really see a reason to take Muggle Studies," she went on, wrinkling her nose slightly. "But then, I don't really have to, since I'm taking the others." She perked up again.

"Defense is my major, my minor is history. I'm mostly interested in History of Magic," Saren said, punching a couple of buttons on the register which soon spat out a number. "I took one Muggle Studies class because it was required, but I haven't stepped foot inside once since." The wrinkle of her nose had told him more than enough for him to know it was safe to say such a thing.

"It was required?" Evangeline asked. Maybe she should check with someone about that. It would be better to get it out of the way, right? She looked up from a quick glance at the register and forgot all about Muggle Studies. Her smile came back.
"Would you do a little tutoring?" she asked. "I'm sure I could find a way to repay you." She felt so bold and brazen saying that! She gave a little toss of her hair, though it didn't come out quite as vixenish as she'd hoped, not with the innocent doll face she had.

Saren eyed her briefly. "I haven't tutored in years, since I was in school," he said. The register dinged as it opened. "I simply haven't been asked since then." It was a lie, naturally. Quite a bit of what he said was a lie. But he liked to see if a person actually wanted it, if they genuinely had the desire, before he committed to anything.

"I'm asking," Evangeline said. Her lips pursed for just a moment before she hid her frustration and went after her coin pouch. Today it was a dusky blue velvet which complemented her dress, but she didn't have time to admire it for fetching the cost of his potion.
She pulled out the correct amount and set it on the counter, but placed her pale hand on top of it. She tilted her head ever slightly. "Please?" she asked.

Saren was silent, just for a breath, but an hour of thoughts rushed through his head. Many of them were in appropriate, that was sure, but that was just because of his age, that was certain. "I could," he said. "It has been a while, but I could." He had been asked to mentor at his old school, but never here. It wasn't like he hadn't done his best at the university, but it seemed more difficult to gain the title of tutor.

Evangeline's lips curved into a pleased smile. "Thank you," she said, taking his could as a yes. "I'll meet you wherever you like." She removed her hand from the coins on the counter and drew her coin pouch closed before tucking it away again. "Just tell me what to do, and I will." Oh, she would do anything!
