Hayden shrugged and scanned over the page on the screen. "Picked it up here and there, my ex was kind of into it a little." And she wasn't about to discuss that particular disaster. It was in the past, and the past didn't matter. "So," she said, taking her turn to shift the conversation. "You said you were going to show me something, or should I try to figure it out on my own, show you what I'm made of?"

"No, I... just..." Indigo was thrown off. He'd gotten sidetracked and it was the new employee who was setting him straight. He hoped Mano didn't hear about that. "The WiFi signal," he remembered. "Click that... and that... You can ignore all this stuff down here. What you need is this." He pointed out a row of three icons near the top. "If someone says the internet isn't working for them, check here..." He went on, reminding himself to stay on course. With as much as Hayden already knew, they could go over the tricky stuff more than once.

Hayden followed along, willing to get through it to get it all done as quickly as possible. Sure, they'd be stuck at work a while longer, but at least marking the biggest thing off their to-do list would take off a lot of the stress. "Looks like Berwyn made a good choice," she said once she'd mastered another item. Indigo was a good teacher, if today was anything to go by. "What do you do when you're working and no one's using these things?"

"I check them, make sure nobody managed to mess anything up. I clean up in here, sometimes I go behind the counter. I get paid the same either way." He wasn't a store manager, but he directed himself most of the time. He was in an odd place. Some people thought he just sat around all day playing computer and others thought he was some kind of alien being who worked voodoo on Muggle stuff. He wasn't really close to anyone. It suited him.
"There's usually someone over here though," he said. "About four thirty when the main classes are over for the day it can get busy. I keep track of who wanted in first and try to get people through faster." Without pissing them off.

"Just stand there staring at them if they're staying too long, eventually they'll feel awkward and leave," Hayden said, turning in her chair to look at him. "I could do it, I confuse people enough as it is, they'd never last more than five minutes." Sometimes, being confusing managed to be as much fun as it was frustrating, and typically those were the times when she was the one in control of the situation.

Indigo shook his head. "If they get creeped out it's bad publicity," he said. "We're close to the school, but if it isn't great here, they'll just keep going until they hit Owlton. The inn there has WiFi too. It's not as good as what we've got here, but it works." He looked over the computers Rhys had helped him pick out and install. They were nice, like everything in this place.
"How do you confuse people? Your name?" As soon as he'd seen her his questions had been answered.

Hayden smirked and gave another one-shouldered shrug. "I don't like fitting into neat little boxes. I like changing it up, and other people don't like that," she said. If he was around her enough he'd get it. Mostly people went with one side of her and ignored as much weirdness as possible, but others caught on and couldn't stop acting uncomfortable the entire time. Sometimes, people were completely fine with it. "I'll try to be good and not piss anyone off."

"Good," Indigo said, though he was still thinking about what she'd said. Changing it up. "The cafe is as open as the school and the rest of Valfirid. As long as you follow the dress code and wear your name tag, you'll be fine. It's no one's business what you want to change up. Mano hired you personally, right? Yeah, there won't be any problems."

"Me and you, then, are we part of some elite hired by the Berwyn himself club?" Hayden asked, propping her elbow on the back of the chair for a more comfortable position. It was a decidedly unladylike position, but since when had she cared? "Other managers do most of the hiring and whatnot?" For a small place there were more managers than she'd expected, but Berwyn had said he wasn't usually on site.

"Mano's got two cafes and a ton of stuff I don't even know about," Indigo said. "When he's here though, he's totally hands on. He wants to meet everyone, find out how everything's doing, he'll work the register to talk to the customers. It's not really a club, but... if you wanted to think about it that way I guess it couldn't hurt." He'd almost smiled a little. Almost.

"Hey, why not give us a chance to feel special?" Hayden asked, her lips curving in the smile Indigo's couldn't quite reach. Then she leaned forward slightly and lowered her voice conspiratorially. "Nothing wrong with a little bragging rights now and again, yeah?" Not enough to get cocky, just enough to store away enough confidence to fight away the demons on the bad days.

Indigo tried to smile, but fell short of any kind of sincerity. "Yeah," he echoed. He glanced down at his watch. "You're off at five today, right?" he asked. It had only been a couple hours, but she knew how to see if the computers were online or not. It wasn't bad for a first day. "I'm leaving soon too. Uh, I've got a lot of homework," he tacked on. He didn't want her to think he was hitting on her or anything.

"I'm a sophomore this year, it's like the professors decided to send us to hell and back in prep for next year already," Hayden said. "I was going to grab something to eat in town and take it back to the dorm, you?" One could only eat the campus food so many times before getting tired of it. Elves could make wonderful food, but sometimes she just wanted a nice, greasy pizza or burger.

"Uh..." Indigo tried to think of an excuse, but he'd intended to go straight to the Pizza Place from here, drown his sorrows in cheesy toppings, and order enough take-out to feed an army. Or him for an indefinite amount of time. He realized it had been too long for any kind of lie to be believed and sighed.
"Yeah, I was going to Owlton for some pizza," he admitted. "I don't live in the dorms though. I'm up on Billywig Boulevard." He might work in the back of the cafe sometimes, but he earned more than your average employee. Being the only one around who could keep track of all that tech and translate it for wizards was pretty valuable after all.

"Yeah? I'm wanting to move out next term if I can, that's why I'm taking this job," Hayden said. She'd been living off little jobs here and there plus savings, but the savings were about gone, and she didn't want to take out a lot of loans to pay for school and living expenses. "Want to walk with me when we get off? I mean, if we're going the same place, anyway..." They could split up after getting their food and head home.
