Errands, really, as if he was some freshman just out of seventh year instead of a fifth year senior who owned and ran his own business, was at the top of his class, and lived on his own. Saren had been unable to convince the professor to opt for one of the other students, so here he was, striding through the corridors, to deliver a message.
To Caspian Catalyst.
Oh he hated playing messenger boy, but some professors felt it important to encourage this kind of work, to instill a sense of community or whatever other bullocks the old man with the wispy hair and chalky eyes had come up with this time. He was above this, he deserved better than this, and he really did not want to be meeting up with the tattooed, pierced, feline favorite of men and women alike who'd managed to speed through university to become a graduate student.

Cat was just leaving the classroom for the day. He was still teaching lower-level Animagus, but in summer he tended to adjust things, depending on his class. This one needed some refreshers in Transfiguration, and he'd stayed after a good fifteen minutes guiding a sophomore through returning his ears to normal size.
He pulled the door shut and rolled his professors' robes up to hide in his bag, then tugged his vest—waistcoat, in British—straight on his body. It was too hot to cover up any more than necessary. He figured he'd swing by the house and drop off his bag, then head to Owlton and see where the action was.

Saren suppressed a heavy sigh and quickened his steps. "Message for you," he said. From someone who doesn't know how to use a wand. He only rarely interacted with the man, preferring to stay away from his old classmate whenever possible. "I hope it's worth the trip." He held out the sealed scroll, silently cursing his professor as he tried not to think about how much of a young schoolboy he must look.

Cat eyed his cousin's brother, and because he couldn't think of anything nice to say, he gave a blatantly fake smile, more of a sneer really, and took the scroll. He made a show of turning it in his hands to find the opening and breaking the seal carefully, knowing that messengers had to wait to be dismissed. How many times had he been detained from something just because he could be? Too bad he couldn't dock house points if the jerk looked impatient. He took his time reading the message, all without saying a word. It was safer that way.

Saren's jaw clenched. "Are you coming to the next night at the arena?" he asked. He could fake polite, too, when he wanted to. "It's the last one of the summer, I think." It was usually a fun night, though he'd never had the pleasure of pairing up with the guy and showing him how a wand should be used. For a moment, he let himself imagine giving the man a taste of his magic.

"Mhm," Cat hummed. He marked his place on the scroll he'd been reading with a finger, then looked up. If Saren wanted to interrupt him and drag this out even longer, he could go ahead and do it. "I wouldn't miss it, since our brothers are going to be here. You have one too, you know." He gave a look of such deep disapproval it bordered on disgust, then went back to looking at his message.

As far as Saren was concerned, the little brat barely counted as a brother. "He sent an owl saying he'll be visiting with his friend," he said, unfazed by the look. "Perhaps we can duel, give them a nice little show." He'd like to see the looks on the pair's faces when it was he, not the all-good and never-failing man in front of him, who won the battle.

"You'd like that, wouldn't you?" Cat returned. He wasn't an idiot, whatever Saren liked to think. He wasn't bad with a wand himself, but Saren was better, even if he'd never admit it out loud. "I've got better things to do than let you practice hexing my ass. Like teaching Intermediate Animagus."
He gave a humorless smile and dug out the most colorful quill he had just because he knew it would annoy Saren. Then he charmed the scroll to hover so he could write a return note on the bottom. "Looks like I've been promoted. Comes with a pay raise and everything. I'll be celebrating tonight." He gave a cocky grin and a wink.

"Of course you will be," Saren said. "You've got a whole new batch of freshmen to take to bed, best get started." He knew the guy's reputation, it had been in place for years, even before they'd made the decision to move to Valfirdu. Oh he'd hated getting his acceptance only to see that the perfect little Catalyst had gotten the same.

"You make it sound like work," Cat teased back. He had a healthy libido, but didn't do anything that moves. It wouldn't be any fun correcting Saren, though. And it wouldn't be work. He had to be careful about anyone in classes he taught, but other than that, he loved sex and didn't see a problem sharing that love.

Saren managed a smile. He wondered briefly if the guy'd f~ed anyone to get his job. The thought made him feel slightly better. It wasn't as though he didn't have a halfway decent libido of his own, he just happened to be much more discreet about the whole thing. "Of course it isn't work, getting people naked is second nature to you," he said, glancing off down the corridor.

"All it takes is a smile," Cat said, rubbing it in. "How much does it cost you to get laid? Or are you still pretending you were born a eunuch?" The words were all casual and matter-of-fact as he finished his note and signed the bottom of it, then plucked it out of the air. Saren had always acted like his sh~ didn't stink. In fact, he wouldn't stoop so low as to sh~ in the first place. He was too busy sucking up to professors and trading curfew passes for head.

Saren barely blinked. "As a matter of fact, I've got a freshman of my own," he said. She'd practically fallen into his lap, not that things had made it very far just yet. "My money goes to much better uses." Lies, but he preferred not to acknowledge how much the guy knew about him and his personal life, whether or not it was a bluff.

Cat gave a dismissive snort. "Did you tell her you're in the Chancellor's pocket or something?" He couldn't begin to imagine Saren getting a girl with his own charms. He rolled the scroll, then brought out his wand to seal it. "Because that'd be a lie. You're not the best at anything, and you're not going to convince me you're worth something by claiming you tricked a teenager into going to bed with you. Take this back and go fap with your books." He held out the sealed scroll.

Saren held the man's eyes levelly as he took the scroll. The slight twitch of his jaw gave away his annoyance. "I look forward to seeing you at the arena," he said, rather than comment on anything that had been said. "You, and the dynamic duo, as well." If they couldn't duel, then maybe there could be a stray accidental spell.
