A few of Jory's fingers slipped out to touch the parchment, which held words he could feel more than he could see. "We were talking about Dismas. Vampires feed off others," he said, "but Jai trusts him, so I should trust him." His eyebrows creased slightly again and he almost surfaced, but he managed to keep himself safe and secure in the invisible mists that floated against his skin.
Or maybe that was his imagination playing tricks with dulled physical senses.
"The singer will be free," Jory recited, and then he tilted his head slightly, as if almost grasping something, but it slipped away from him. Instead, his thoughts moved toward other facets. "Photo shoots, tours, requirements. Being taken away from home." That part was sad, he thought. Jai should be able to choose when he left. How long would Jai be allowed to stay here before he was forced away?

Jai looked at Jory, sure this had to be about him. But he was free, wasn't he? And he was home. He'd never felt more at home anywhere than when he was with Sunset. Photo shoots, tours, requirements. He loved those things. They were exhausting, though. And what if he wanted to be with Jory? When he was with Danica he was supposed to make a huge deal out of things. What did it mean that he'd be free?
He glanced at Madame Magadia and the look she gave him had him looking back down at the stone in his hand. He had to be calm for Jory.

Jory's thoughts could go to himself or Indigo next, and neither were particularly attractive options. He didn't want to think about Indigo with someone else and he didn't want to think what unsavory obligations meant. He didn't want to have any of the vivid images he'd experienced to fall in front of his mind's eye about those things or to explore what they meant. "I don't know if I can," he said softly. There was calm and protection, but fear still tried to take over.

"You can," Dayea prompted. "You must face the truth. Let the stone speak to you, speak through you. Say the words. What will the broken one find? Distance yourself if you must, but stay close enough to listen." Her grasp on the smooth chunk of quartz tightened as she willed him to go on.

Jory took a deep breath and held it, fighting the tightening of brow and hands, then let it out slowly. "Peace and calm." Calm. No worry. "Instead of pain. He's bisexual, and she can be both." That must be a good thing, right? Being with a girl was a good way for the guy to take his mind off of what had happened, if only for a little while.

"Let guilt fade," Dayea urged. "Let the broken one go for now and see the Seer. Love, yes? Do you see it? Do you feel love for yourself?" Jory had fought the last one, and she suspected that she knew why. Therefore it was time to move on, time for Jory to face himself and his ego with open eyes.

Jory didn't want to answer that one, at least partially because he didn't know. His confidence had grown exponentially during his relationship with Indigo, but now that the relationship was over, so many things wanted to come back to the front of his mind. "I want to," he said, then he pulled his eyes open and let go of the stone he'd been holding. It had stopped being about the prophecy and started being about feelings. Rather than look at his companions, he kept his gaze firmly on his hands. "I'm sorry, I'll try again, just give me a minute."

"Yes, of course," Dayea said. She stood, briefly turning toward the mantle, on which sat a small, golden bowl filled with various chocolates. This she set upon the table before seeking out her gemstones. She selected one without hesitation, closed the drawer quietly and returned to the table.
The stone she set beside the bowl of chocolates glimmered vibrantly in the fireplace. It was a masterpiece of purple and yellow blooming alongside one another, deep reds and burnished golds tucked between the two. Ametrine. It was another variation of quartz, a mixture of amethyst and citrine, two powerful gems melded together. Amethyst helped surrender to spiritual power, helped release addictive behavior, align physical reality with spiritual purpose. Citrine enhanced clarity, stimulated one to manifest one's highest dreams and desires into physical reality, to dig deep with resolve against blockage, to triumph over feelings of unworthiness.
Ametrine, the mixture of these two, prompted harmony of mind and spirit, letting go of fears that prevented action, letting go of indecisiveness. If he chose to accept the stone, it would be a great tool for overcoming self-sabotage, something which seemed to plague Jory. He had so much potential!

Jory reached for a chocolate without hesitation. Maybe being obsessed with chocolate was just a seer thing. His near-trance lifted slowly, and he continued avoiding Jai. Things had quickly turned into a therapy session. The stone was tempting, there really wasn't any reason not to take it, was there? He remembered his first lesson with the woman, where he'd made the decision to get better instead of hiding away, something he'd tried to do but seemed to still fail at. He reached for the stone with one hand. "I'd been doing well, hadn't I? Before this week?"

"In many ways, yes," Dayea said. "But you still feel unworthy of greatness. You still prefer the path of least resistance. Divination requires one to let things go, yes, but to be great requires pursuit. It requires that we put truth above all else. The ministry, those in power and desperation, do not seek a great Seer or Oracle to give them reassurance. Muggles perhaps, those to whom this is all questionable even when they wish to believe.
"Your talents have reached as far as they can without your permission, Jory. If you wish to progress, you must will it. If not..." She gave a bit of a shrug. If not, he could stay as he was forever.

Jory didn't think right now was exactly the best time to be trying to improve his skills like this. His entire life had been ripped away and turned upside down. But perhaps that was what was needed. Last time, it had been during a big life change, too. Had this all happened just so he would be forced to progress again? "I'm some stupid kid from the country who always makes the wrong choice," he said, though he wondered if it had all just been part of some weird, evil fate. Let's put him through sh~ to make him a seer.
He closed his eyes tightly again and wrapped his fingers around the stone. This wasn't him anymore, he'd gained confidence, and just because it had been smashed didn't mean he couldn't bring it back, right? "Something good should come from all of this." Something besides sleeping with a hot lead singer.

"Yes," Dayea said, eyes shining with anticipation. "Something great, perhaps. The seer will be loved," she prompted. She might have argued with him about intelligence versus skill, about the worth of humble beginnings, about making the right choice for once, willingly choosing instead of relying on fate, but he took the need out of her hands. "Be great, Jory," she said softly. "Forget the lessons of life and let the inner eye open wide."

Jory nodded and tried. Or, more accurately, he didn't try. Letting go was more effective than actively trying, and so he focused on his breathing, and then on nothing. Astra staring at him, himself giving a warning to Jai, a voice that wasn't his own. The words were fuzzy, but he knew them from the nearness of his companions and the simple parchment. What was said was going to happen, there was no changing that, and there was no knowing how it would affect anything else, so why worry?
"Love without fear or worry, pain forgotten for a sense of purpose and finally a role, a goal in the world," he said. It wouldn't be instant, and he would have to work for it, but he wanted it. How many times had he answered I don't know to someone asking him what he wanted to do with his life? How often did he hold back for fear of what might happen if he spoke his mind? "Confidence that relies on no one else." His lips quirked a little as an image flashed into his thoughts and his head tilted slightly toward Jai. "On a bed having ice cream and listening to music."

Jai, who had been silent and brooding for so long, looked up at Jory. His lips curved, first crooking at an angle, then spreading into a grin. Jory had been afraid, hadn't he? And he'd fought things. And this all sounded good, it sounded like what everyone wanted. Love without fear, pain forgotten. Confidence. And ice cream. Jai would get Jory all the ice cream he wanted. This was all incredible.

Jory kept his head tilted slightly in Jai's direction as another word escaped. "Independence." That was an important one. Then images seemed to fade, and though he'd said nothing more on the first third of the prophecy, a lot of information had been added overall. Slowly, he blinked his eyes open, and though his first sight was Jai, it slipped toward his hands as he considered what he'd said.
