Jai still didn't know what was going on by the time they got ready to leave. Roadies would take care of the stuff on stage, Lev, Piper, and Rocky would sign some autographs, but Danica and Jai were leaving, neither of them sure what they were supposed to say. That meant no comment.
They pushed through the press of the main club, security on either side of them. Jai had his hat pulled low over his eyes, for all the good it did when his jaw looked like sh~. At the doors, Danica took off one way and Jai took off the other, a large man in club robes dogging his steps. Jai shoved his hands into his pockets and hunched his shoulders. He knew better than to argue.

Jory couldn't stay at home, not with Indigo stewing behind a locked door, and he couldn't focus on anything in his room. Astra was relaxed again since everyone had left, so it only took a couple of minutes for him to decide to get out of the house. It might be a bad idea, but if he went to talk to Jai he could at least smooth something over after the horrible twist ending of the evening. "Jai?" he asked when he saw the kind-of familiar figure leaving the club.

Jai looked up from his absent perusal of the sidewalk, and his steps slowed. "Hey," he said. He glanced back at security. "Give us some space, will you?" The man dropped behind a bit further. Jai looked at Jory a little awkwardly, then past him, as though that boyfriend might pop out again, then back at the sidewalk. "You can walk with me if you want." He paused, tense, then went on. "Listen, I'm sorry, if I'd known I'd have given you two tickets, I... I wouldn't have tried to kiss you." His cheeks flushed. If he'd known, he wouldn't have given Jory that ticket at all. He'd have looked for someone else to try getting in bed.

"It's not really your fault," Jory said, falling into step beside Jai. "It's kind of my fault. I mean, I should've figured out...but after so long I didn't even consider you might've been interested in something." He really was kind of stupid for thinking a rock star would just randomly give him an invite for no reason. "I'm sorry for what Indigo did, he shouldn't have. He kind of just...went mad."

"Yeah, I was there." Jai moved his jaw a little and winced. The bruise-healing paste had gotten rid of a lot, but the pain was too deep for it to disappear so quickly. "I don't know what kind of story I'm supposed to tell you, Dismas didn't say, so like... if anyone asks you could you just... not talk about it?" He flicked a glance at Jory, more aside than down with his back and shoulders hunched the way they were.

Jory nodded and brought his hands together in front of him to fiddle, though it was nowhere near the frantic motions it had been earlier. This wasn't the Jai he'd met before, and it was a little unsettling, though it kept his own mood calmer. "Yeah, sure. But, um, we kind of got into a fight at home and...I don't know how much you know about muggle stuff, but he was doing something on the internet and a lot of people saw it, I think."

Jai's eyes widened. "Oh sh~, really?" Dammit, that could be bad. Jai reached up to tug at his hat, which didn't make any difference whatsoever. He stopped walking, the guard stopped, and he looked back the way he'd come. They didn't have any Muggle fans, did they? Except there were Muggles all over with magical kids, magical S.O.'s, magical parents.
He shook his head and turned back toward home, picking up his pace a little. He didn't want to go back to the club, back to the mess he'd left behind. Sunset had told him he could go home, and he was going home. "I'll let Dismas know," he said. He flicked another glance at Jory. "So like... what'd you guys say?" he asked carefully.

Jory cringed a little. "A lot of stuff, he said your name some. There's a lot of muggleborns and stuff who watch him. I didn't realize it was on until his friend showed up to break it up, I'm sorry," he said, looking over with an anxious look on his face. The last thing he needed was for Jai to get pissed at him or end up getting in trouble for it. "We were just mad at each other and said...I don't even remember a lot of it."

Jai's brows drew tightly together, and inside his head he was swearing. Sunset wouldn't like this, but he didn't think he could deal with any more tonight. He'd been turned down, lectured, told everything would be fine, punched, told to go home and keep out of trouble, and now a bunch of people online, magical people online, which he didn't even know existed, knew sh~ that Dismas would probably definitely not like.
Sh~. "You wanna catch a movie or something? No strings, I just need out of my head for a while." What he needed was a good f~fest, but he'd managed not to pull and didn't feel like starting from square one.

Hey, Jory, where have you been for the last three hours?
Don't worry, Indigo, just out seeing a movie with Jai.
No strings. It didn't mean anything, and Indigo was going to have his nose glued to his computer, anyway. Jory gave a firm nod. "That sounds like a great way to chill out after all this," he said. He even had a little bit of money now from helping out other students, so he could even pay his own way. "Does your jaw hurt too bad?"

"Not too bad," Jai said. He moved it again and winced again. "I've taken a hell of a lot worse. I wasn't always a super-hot rock star." He wasn't sure if he was giving himself a boost or mocking himself, but either way his lips quirked. "Do you care what we see? I think ah... The Martian, Hotel Transylvania, Spectre, that's James Bond..." He glanced aside at Jory and stopped listing. "Do you even know what I'm talking about?" Jory hadn't been sure about the internet thing, and for all he knew the guy couldn't tell a t.v. from a telephone.

"Yeah, we go to the movies sometimes," Jory said. "I don't get half the stuff that's there, but the stories are usually fun." A movie had been one of his and Indigo's first dates. "You pick, I have no idea what any of them are about." As long as he could focus on the flashing lights instead of the evening, he didn't really care what he was watching.

Jai thought for a moment, then glanced back over his shoulder. "Do you care?" he asked the security guy.
The man shrugged. Haven't seen Everest, he said.
Jai nodded. "We'll see that, then. It's totally Muggle stuff," he told Jory. "Muggles are always doing sh~ to prove how badass they are. So these guys decide to climb a mountain, they don't have magic so they've got like tanks of air and ropes and hooks and stuff," he said, gesturing with his hands. "It's really basic stuff. And they get up there and this storm hits and they're like trying to survive. They can't call for help or anything."
Based on a true story, the security guy said. I was like twelve when it happened.

"Then let's go see it," Jory said, glancing toward the otherwise silent guard behind them. He'd completely forgotten about the man and supposed he could see how famous people could just get used to it. "Don't muggles have like, planes and stuff? Wizards don't just do stupid stuff to make them look awesome. Well...nevermind, some do. Except it involves newt eyes and stuff instead of...hooks."

Jai's lips quirked. Wizards did all kinds of stupid stuff. He tried to explain as they neared the cinema and got in line for tickets. "The point isn't to get to the top of the mountain," he said. "Well, it is, but... it's not being at the top, it's getting there. It's pushing yourself so you can't even breathe, you know? It's doing something that'd kill someone else and getting back and being like, I did that. I'm one of the people that did that and lived through it. Three adults for Everest? Yeah, sure." Jai stepped aside and let security pay.
