"I could've paid," Jory started, then realized he hadn't brought any muggle money with him, anyway, and immediately stopped. It was a good habit to bring some along because of how mixed the towns were, but he must've walked out without refilling his supply. "Can I at least pretend I owe you, or something?" he asked, raising an eyebrow at Jai.

Jai flicked a glance at Jory, then away. "No." he said. His head lowered a bit and he shook it firmly. "You don't owe me." He'd f~ed up and maybe he could partly make up for having royally screwed this guy's relationship. "I'm buying snacks and stuff too," he said, as though he thought Jory would argue. He looked over at security, who had their tickets in hand. "It counts as business, right?" he asked.
Sure, the guy said. Like it mattered. Dismas would pay either way.

"Then thanks," Jory said. This was definitely going to be more fun than sitting at home brooding, and probably more fun than Indigo was going to have. He had really never gotten the point of games past simple ones with bright, fun colors. "How long did it take you to get used to have someone following you?" He didn't remember having to deal with a guard the day they'd first met.

Jai grinned and the guy dropped behind them again. "I'm still not used to it," he admitted. "It's cool as hell though. Sometimes." Security totally ignored that. "A couple years ago I was crashing on people's couches, sleeping on benches and sh~ and now I'm important. Someone hanging around so I don't get mugged or something is totally worth it." And yet it seemed like no one at school had really caught on to who he was. Not unless he told them. A lot of the time he got to be Cat's friend, and that was cool.

"I never really wanted to be-no, that's a lie, being important is nice. Never really thought about being famous, though," Jory said. No, most of his ambitions had been fall in love and enjoy life. It had certainly taken him long enough to figure that out, especially the last one, since his old attempts hadn't exactly ended well. "I guess I kind of got the important thing, maybe. I'm kind of a seer, turns out."

"Seriously?" Jai asked. He brushed off Security's question about snacks, far more interested in this. "What do you mean kind of? Like, you are, or you might be, or you're yanking my chain or what?" Jai had actually forgotten that Jory was into Divination stuff, but he sure remembered now. That was the thing he'd been forgetting. He knew there was a reason he'd liked the guy so much. Besides his arse.

Jory's eyes widened and he drew in breath in what probably looked more dramatic than it felt, "Oh my god, you're friends with Cat! I gave a prophecy a couple years ago, and turned out he was involved. He got in a huge fight with some guy, Saren. I mean, Cat was in the hospital wing for forever." He pretty much completely forgot about what all had happened at the realization. "I've been working with a professor to get more control over it all and stuff."

"Holy f~ that was you?!" Jai's hands rose to push into his hair and he almost lost his hat, catching it lightly by the rim. He glanced around, then tucked it back onto his head and tried to keep his voice down. "I know Saren too, we all went to school together. He's like, Cat's stepcousin or something." He thought they were related, but it had been so long since Cat had admitted to it that Jai wasn't sure anymore.
"Saren's not in school anymore. I don't know if he's coming back but it's lucky for him they didn't break his wand. F~ing sh~ b~tard..."

"So he was always a jerk?" Jory asked, the knowledge, given to him now from someone who had known the guy for so long, gave him a sense of relief from something he hadn't realized he'd still been holding on to. "Everyone told me I was stupid for it, but I kept wondering if it was my fault," he said, eyes still wide. "I mean, kind of, it's been two years or something, but it's hard not to wonder, you know?"

"I know, but yeah, he was always an a~hole. Like a You-Know-Who wannabe clone," which was something he was pretty sure Cat said his brother had called the guy before the sh~storm hit. "You weren't the guy got the Healer, were you? The guy who was getting people out of the way?" Had those even been the same guy?

"I stayed behind trying to get people to leave and told Indigo to go get help," Jory said. "He didn't want me to stay, but I'm the one who gave the prophecy, I couldn't just leave once I'd recognized Saren. There was this ginger girl there, I never saw her again, but I had to like, drag her away from the guy." It had been pure insanity.

"Wow," Jai breathed. "You know, if it's the girl I'm thinking of, she probably would have gotten herself killed. She's like obsessed with Saren. Or she was, I haven't seen her around this semester. She was always following him around like a sick puppy." A really sick one, all things considered.
"So do you like, do readings?" Jai asked. "Or did it lose the fun when sh~ got real?"

Jory shrugged and looked away from Jai in mild discomfort. While he was mostly over the problems he'd dealt with in the immediate aftermath, there were lingering thoughts. Maybe he was just cursed to never actually be okay with anything that happened to him and had to deal with it all over again every time it was brought up. "It was confusing, and terrifying. I don't, like, sit at a table and charge a galleon a reading, but I still study it. The more control I have over it, the better, and maybe eventually I can control it enough not to have another prophecy like that."

Jai was silent for a long moment. He hadn't meant readings like that. He knew better than to think any self-respecting wizard would sit around conning people out of change, but Jory answered his question anyway. It had lost the fun.
Security showed up then with tubs of popcorn and sodas in a cardboard carrier, along with a few different kinds of candy. "Do you want to see the movie?" Jai asked. "Or do you want to ditch this place and go hang out?" Maybe they could talk Divination. Maybe he could pretend that he thought this might actually go somewhere.

Jory had to take some time to seriously consider those choices. Their conversation had been easy and relaxing even without the movie, and maybe he could calm down enough just from talking with someone who seemed interested in one of his biggest loves. A movie was safer. Tickets and snacks had already been bought. "We could hang out," he said, then his eyes darted toward the security guy, "but we should give the tickets and whatever we don't take to someone in line."
