Castiel had thrown himself in front of Mari and thrown up a strong shield at the motion of Saren's wand, but it wasn't enough to save Caspian. "You bastard!" he shouted, real fury rising up over panic. He threw a hard avis toward Saren, hoping the angry blackbirds would keep the man busy, then turned his wand on the bleeding, matted beast that was his brother. Aguamenti!"No one insults me with impunity!" he cried, turning back to his foe. Reducto!

Saren threw up a shield as soon as the birds had been dealt with, but he didn't have the focus to make it as strong as it needed to be. The brat's curse hit his shield and shattered it, sending him flying backwards again when he'd just gotten back to his feet. He caught himself with his clawed and bitten arm, grunting in pain as the arm crumbled and he hit his head against a bench. He blinked through the pain and hazy vision to point his wand at the kid. Levicorpus! For the moment, he wasn't worried about the animagus.

Jory gripped the girl's arm and pushed through the crowd, hoping to get her as far away as possible even though he felt like he couldn't completely leave the area. In the aisle, he paused, turning back to look for Mari and calling for him. "Mari! You need to get out!"

Mari looked over to see Jory calling for him, but he shook his head. His hand was gripping his wand tightly, though he didn't remember drawing it and wasn't sure what to do with it. He wasn't as good with a wand as Castiel was, and he didn't even know if he wanted to do anything against Saren, it was too much all at once.

Castiel was in the middle of casting a spell when he was yanked upside-down by one ankle. It didn't stop him, but made him angrier. "Is that the best you've got?" he spat. He was fully aware he might be dropped at any moment, but cast the best confundus charm he had. He twisted in the air to minimize the pain when he fell and prepared to send a volley of rapid-fire spells too quick to be blocked. Petrificus totalus, incendio, conjunctivitis...

Saren threw up another, stronger shield this time, but the strength of the first spell and the effects of the others in such quick succession weakened the shield. The heat of the fire scorched his skin and his eyes began to burn as his vision quickly left. When he was unable to see to get accurate aim, he opted for a bit of aid. Serpensortia! A large, green, hissing serpent slithered from the tip of his wand. Oppugno! sent the snake after Castiel, who Saren wasn't quite ready to drop just yet. He took what little bought time he had to remove the hex on his eyes.

Mari looked between the two in panic, afraid Castiel would get hurt and that Saren would only be more angry if he tried to join the fight. "Expelliarmus!" he blurted, aiming his wand hopefully enough at Saren to count, when his brother was distracted removing the spell.

The surprise at hearing his brother's voice likely had as much to do with Saren losing his grip on his wand as the actual spell. It clattered away, rolling under the bench in front of him and falling down to the next level. "You little brat!" he yelled, picking himself up to charge after his wand.

Castiel let out a sharp cry and a groan as he fell half onto the bench. He was dizzy, but he still had his own wand in hand, and that would be enough. Aalarte ascendare! He swept his wand with an aching, protesting arm, and sent both snake and wand flying into the air. Where they landed didn't matter, as long as it was too far for Saren to reach.

"Down there!" Indigo called, as though it wasn't fairly obvious with the huge circle around the mess of a duel. Where was Jory? He could hardly look for all the blood and then there was a flying snake coming directly toward him. Indigo did a hasty sidestep and half-fell down the next step to avoid the thing, which looked pissed.

Tempest's wand was already out, and he gave it a quick slash in the air to stop the snake. The wand he let land where it would as he hurried down the steps, saying little, but letting his natural talents shine. "Please step aside," he'd say softly, and a girl would drag her boyfriend away to make a path. "Please let me through," he'd murmur, and people would pause to listen, then move away as he asked. The scene was worse than he'd expected. There was blood, far too much blood, and a large, familiar cat slumped unmoving in a puddle of rapidly draining life, fur and skin scorched from its body. His senses said the beast, a student and instructor, was still alive, but only just. Tempest hurried to the leopard's side and knelt, dropping his medical bag and beginning to sing under his breath. Vulnera Sanentur. The wound was deep. This would take time he might not have.

Avery, eyes dark, followed in Tempest's path. When he reached the nearly empty circle, he raised his wand to summon wands to him. In a minute's time, he had four wands in his hands. "What happened here?" he demanded. "The two of you aren't even students." He typically didn't lose his cool, but he had to know what had happened. Now. Someone was nearly dead, from the looks of it, another was bleeding badly, and a third appeared to be hurt, as well.

Jory had only taken the girl far enough away to be safe, so he caught sight of Indigo when he returned. He darted away from the girl to get to Indigo. "I had to help her get away, I couldn't just do nothing, and they looked so mad, and I've got blood on my shoes," he said, ignoring any shaking in his hands as he reached for Indigo.

Breathing heavily, Saren glared at Castiel as he pulled himself up, cradling his injured arm and ignoring the dizziness and darkness that washed over him from hitting his head at least twice during the fight. "That one," he said, gesturing weakly toward Castiel, "called me Voldemort. I momentarily lost control." He reached up to put a hand to his head and found a disturbing lack of eyebrows, likely from the fire Castiel had sent his way. "Things got out of hand."

Castiel didn't bother arguing, but let out a long, pained groan. He hurt, and he wanted to argue, but he was still very, very angry, and he wasn't above using every tool at his disposal. He burst into tears. "You hurt my brother!" he yelled. "I'm telling your mom, and if you killed him..." He gave a loud sob and curled into himself. The only people here who knew he could fake cry were Mari and Caspian, and he was so close to crying anyway that it was more a matter of letting himself.
