Well, it certainly wasn't a cat fight. "Are we...I mean, are Seers supposed to give a prophecy and then just forget it? I gave this," he said, pulling a hand from the stone he still held to touch the paper. "I can't imagine pretending I don't know something is going to happen or not trying to figure it out." Most Seers didn't even remember their prophecies, right?

"It is a difficult skill, learning to remember the words. I was taught by my mother from a young age," Dayea said. "Five generations of seers who passed secrets to their daughters, who built upon them.
"Giving a prophecy is a kind of trance. A deep trance goes beyond your conscious mind. First learn meditation," she advised. "Learn to enter a trance, to clear your mind fully. This is only the first step, but many will not master it. They wish for quick answers, for runes and cards. Those have their place, but Divination is a vast field."

Jory thought for a moment as he looked at the prophecy. "I could practice more with the crystal, just to start with," he mused. It required a kind of meditation and would give him something to focus on. Meditation wasn't something he'd ever considered practicing very much. This day was turning out so different from what he had expected.

"You could," Dayea assented. She gave him some tips on meditation and told him that he should find it easier each time he practiced. She warned him not to use his crystal ball as his only form, as the goal was to learn not to focus.
"It is the feeling of floating in water, when your weight is lifted and your ears are submerged," she said. "If it helps you to meditate, the water is most calm near the woods."

Jory nodded as he thought, leaning forward. He tucked his feet beneath the chair and reached for another bit of chocolate. She had said to help himself. Maybe the library would be a good place to go, too, to look for information on meditation. Over the past months he'd gotten rather good at finding information from books. "I'll try out a few different things, find out which works best." He paused for just a moment before he looked up at Magadia again. "Do you think my move triggered this? It seems too convenient not to have."

"You are entering adulthood," Dayea noted. "You said that you have been having brief visions for a year now. Something may have triggered it, but it was more likely simply your time. You were relaxed, perhaps, and open to hearing the inner eye." She gave him a knowing look.

Jory grinned and he felt his ears redden. He was pretty sure he hadn't been that relaxed ever. "Well, my inner eye had better not decide to show itself every time I'm relaxed, that would get old really quickly," he said. It would probably freak Indigo out, too. He forced himself to release the stone, pulling his hands free. Once he was no longer touching it, a wave of exhaustion washed over him like a dam breaking.

Dayea pulled the tray closer and sent her crystal floating back to its shelf. The stones floated back to their velvet nests, and the drawer closed on them, leaving the two of them with parchment, a quill, and refreshment.
"Rest," Dayea said. "I will write suggestions for you, but tonight, rest. When you are ready, come to the door. Your dog is ready for you."
